# Yoga Nidra

An introduction to Yoga Nidra in the Stillness Library, including deep rest, body awareness, guided structure, and responsible use.

Yoga Nidra is commonly practised while lying down and uses guided attention to move through the body, breath, sensations, imagery, and deep relaxation.

The Holistic Care uses Yoga Nidra and related deep-relaxation approaches as experiential practices. Listeners should choose a safe setting where they do not need to drive, operate machinery, or remain externally alert.

## What happens in a Yoga Nidra practice

Yoga Nidra is usually practised lying down or in another restful position while following structured verbal guidance.

Depending on the method, a session may include:

* settling the body
* rotation of attention through body areas
* breath awareness
* imagery
* awareness of contrasting sensations
* a personal intention or sankalpa
* returning gradually to ordinary awareness

Yoga Nidra can support deep rest, but it should not be described as a replacement for normal sleep.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/stillness-library/yoga-nidra.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
