# Nondual Awareness

How to choose Stillness Library practices that move from mindfulness into open awareness and self-inquiry.

Nondual awareness practices differ from basic calming exercises.

Rather than focusing only on changing thoughts, emotions, or bodily states, they may ask:

**What is aware of this experience?**

## A useful progression

For many people, the clearest pathway is:

1. settle with the body or breath
2. notice thoughts and emotions
3. recognise that those experiences are known
4. turn attention toward the knowing itself
5. rest without forcing a conceptual answer

## What these practices are not

Nondual practice is not about convincing yourself that:

* nothing matters
* emotions are unreal
* relationships are unnecessary
* boundaries do not apply
* suffering should be ignored

The inquiry should make ordinary life more honest and responsive, not less.

## When to choose this category

Nondual practices may suit listeners who:

* already have some mindfulness experience
* are interested in self-inquiry
* want to explore awareness directly
* find contemplative questions meaningful

## When to choose something simpler

If someone is highly activated, frightened, sleep-deprived, or struggling with disorientation, a grounding or body-based practice may be more appropriate than abstract inquiry.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/stillness-library/nondual-awareness.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
