# Mindfulness Room Guidelines

Design guidance for a calm, inclusive school mindfulness room, including seating, sensory choices, safety, and accessibility.

A mindfulness room should feel calm, uncluttered, safe, and inclusive rather than ceremonial or overly stimulating.

Useful elements may include comfortable floor seating, natural light where possible, soft neutral colours, simple nature-inspired materials, accessible storage, and good ventilation.

Fragrance should be optional and used cautiously. Some children may have allergies, sensory sensitivities, asthma, or strong preferences. A neutral, clean environment is safer than relying on aromas.

## What matters most

A useful mindfulness room does not need expensive décor.

Prioritise:

* comfortable and varied seating
* uncluttered visual design
* safe walking space
* ventilation and comfortable temperature
* soft but adequate lighting
* storage for mats, cushions, and simple practice materials
* options for children who prefer a chair or standing position

Avoid strong fragrances by default because some children may be sensitive to diffusers, incense, or essential oils.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/schools-and-educators/mindfulness-room-guidelines.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
