# Choosing a Mindfulness Practice Checklist

A simple checklist for matching a practice to the present need, time, and level of experience.

Before choosing a practice, ask three questions.

## 1. What do I need right now?

### If you feel agitated

Try:

* grounding
* gentle breathing
* movement
* body awareness

### If you feel mentally busy

Try:

* breath awareness
* sound awareness
* short guided meditation
* thought-observation practice

### If you are tired

Try:

* Yoga Nidra
* body scan
* rest-oriented audio

### If you want deeper inquiry

Try:

* open awareness
* self-inquiry
* nondual reflection

## 2. How much time do I actually have?

Choose something you can complete without rushing.

5 minutes used consistently can be more useful than an ambitious 40-minute plan that rarely happens.

## 3. What format suits me?

Choose between:

* silent practice
* guided audio
* movement
* journaling
* story-based practice
* group learning

## Final check

* Is the practice appropriate to my current state?
* Is it safe and comfortable?
* Am I using it to support experience or to force experience away?

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/practical-checklists/choosing-a-mindfulness-practice-checklist.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
