# Thoughts & Cognitive Defusion Games

Play-based ways to notice thoughts without automatically treating them as facts.

A thought can feel true simply because it is loud, repetitive, or emotionally charged.

Cognitive defusion is the skill of noticing a thought as a thought.

Instead of:

**“I will fail.”**

we may notice:

**“I am having the thought that I will fail.”**

## THC examples

The current game collection includes **Thought Cloud Catcher**, where thoughts are represented as passing clouds rather than objects that must be grabbed.

Another useful exercise is **Thought or Fact?**

Write down a statement and ask:

* Is this directly verifiable?
* Is this a prediction?
* Is it an interpretation?
* Is it a worry story?
* What evidence do I actually have?

## Why use play?

For younger learners, a visual metaphor can make psychological distance easier to understand than abstract explanation.

The goal is not to suppress unwanted thoughts.

It is to learn that having a thought and obeying a thought are different things.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/mindfulness-games-and-interactive-practice/thoughts-and-cognitive-defusion-games.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
