# Choosing a Mindfulness Game

Match the game to the skill, age, and situation instead of trying to play everything at once.

The most useful mindfulness game is usually the one a learner is willing to repeat.

Instead of choosing by novelty alone, ask what skill is needed.

## If the goal is calming and regulation

Choose a breathing or grounding activity.

Useful when someone feels activated, restless, or overwhelmed.

## If the goal is working with thoughts

Choose a game that helps the player notice thoughts as mental events rather than commands.

THC's **Thought Cloud Catcher** is built around this kind of cognitive defusion.

## If the goal is emotional literacy

Choose an activity that helps identify and name feelings.

## If the goal is gratitude or self-kindness

Choose a game that deliberately turns attention toward supportive experiences, appreciation, or compassionate language.

## If the learner dislikes stillness

Use movement, visual feedback, sound, or sensory exploration instead of insisting on seated meditation.

## Start with one game

Repeated practice matters more than sampling every option.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/mindfulness-games-and-interactive-practice/choosing-a-mindfulness-game.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
