# Breathing & Grounding Games

How interactive breathing and sensory games teach settling skills without requiring long formal meditation.

Breathing and grounding games help learners return attention to immediate physical experience.

THC's current games include options such as **Breathing Buddy** and sensory grounding activities.

## Breathing games

A breathing game can make an invisible process visible.

For children, visual pacing or a playful metaphor is often easier than instructions such as “regulate your nervous system.”

Keep breathing comfortable.

Avoid:

* exaggerated inhalation
* long breath holds
* forcing a fixed rhythm
* continuing if the learner feels dizzy or uncomfortable

## Grounding games

Grounding uses present sensory information:

* what can I see?
* what can I hear?
* what can I feel through touch?
* where are my feet?
* what is happening in the body right now?

The familiar 5-4-3-2-1 structure is one example.

Grounding is not intended to suppress emotion. It gives attention something concrete to return to when thoughts or sensations feel overwhelming.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/mindfulness-games-and-interactive-practice/breathing-and-grounding-games.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
