# Body Scan for Children & Families

A short, child-friendly approach to body awareness and shared family practice.

A body scan is a guided attention practice in which awareness moves gradually through different areas of the body.

THC's current family guide recommends shorter, more playful versions for children than the longer body scans often used with adults.

## Child-friendly approach

A short practice can include:

1. noticing the feet
2. moving attention to the legs
3. noticing the belly and breath
4. noticing the hands and arms
5. noticing the shoulders and face
6. feeling the whole body together

## What to notice

The child does not need to relax every body part.

The practice is simply to notice:

* warmth
* coolness
* pressure
* tingling
* tightness
* movement
* ease
* or even “I do not notice much”

## Family use

Practising together can create a shared vocabulary for body signals and emotions.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/guides-and-insights/body-scan-for-children-and-families.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
