# Nonduality & Advaita Terms

Key concepts used in THC's awareness and self-inquiry material, including nonduality, Advaita, Atman, Brahman, and moksha.

THC's deeper contemplative material draws partly from Advaita Vedanta and related nondual traditions.

## Nonduality

Nonduality points to the recognition that subject and object, observer and observed, or self and world are not ultimately separate in the way ordinary conceptual thinking suggests.

## Advaita Vedanta

A major school of Indian philosophy. **Advaita** means “not two.”

## Atman

In Vedantic philosophy, Atman refers to the deepest Self, beyond the changing personality and mental content.

## Brahman

The ultimate reality described in the Upanishadic and Vedantic traditions.

## Atma Vichara

Self-inquiry: direct investigation into the nature of the self or the sense of “I.”

## Moksha

Liberation or freedom from ignorance of one's true nature in Indian philosophical traditions.

## Witness / observer

A practical term used in meditation to describe the capacity to notice thoughts, sensations, and emotions.

THC uses these concepts as invitations to inquiry rather than as beliefs that every learner must adopt.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/glossary-and-key-concepts/nonduality-and-advaita-terms.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
