# How to Use the Program

Guidance for using Calm the Storm at home or in supported settings, including pacing, repetition, choice, and age-appropriate practice.

There is no need to rush through the lessons.

A practical approach is to listen to one lesson or practice, repeat useful exercises across several days, and discuss what the learner noticed. Some practices may become favourites and can be revisited whenever helpful.

Adults should avoid turning completion into a test or demanding that a child feel calmer after every practice.

## Recommended use

Introduce one practice at a time and allow repetition before moving on.

Helpful principles include:

* use the program when the learner is reasonably settled
* keep expectations realistic
* repeat favourite practices
* allow eyes-open and movement options
* avoid forcing personal disclosure
* discuss what felt useful or uncomfortable
* stop a practice if distress increases

The program works best when adults model patience and curiosity rather than treating calmness as a performance target.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.theholisticcare.com/knowledge/calm-the-storm/how-to-use-the-program.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
